Walter Scott, founder of the historical novel genre.
He did not sign his first works in his own name, and this secret was revealed only in 1827.
The writer received most of the knowledge in self-education, he had a phenomenal memory, which greatly helped him in writing novels.
Walter Scott was a very honest and responsible person. In 1825, a strong panic broke out on the London Stock Exchange, and creditors demanded payment on bills. But neither the publisher nor the owner of the printing house could pay this amount, declaring themselves bankrupt.Scott made a commitment on the accounts on which he was signed, although his debt was a small part. He worked hard for a long time, but, in the end, he paid all his debts.
His life ended on September 21, 1832. Lying on his deathbed, he asked his son-in-law to bring him a “book” and read it aloud. When they asked him which book, the dying Scott replied: “There is only one book worthy to be called simply the Book — it is the Bible.”
