In 1945, Elizabeth joined the Women's Self-Defense Unit in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and was trained as a driver of an ambulance. Her military service lasted 5 months, as a result of which the girl received the military rank of lieutenant.
At the age of 21, Elizabeth married the 26-year-old officer of the British Navy, Philip Mountbatten. The man was the son of the Greek Prince Andrew, who eventually received the title of Duke of Edinburgh. The royal couple had four children: Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward.During her life, Elizabeth II visited more than 130 countries. Few people know that the famous Big Ben has been officially named the Elizabeth Tower since 2012.
