John Ray, founder of botany and zoology.
He laid the foundation for botany and zoology. First used the concepts of "genus" and "species". First proposed grouping plants into monocotyledonous and dicotyledonous. "John Ray was born November 29, 1627 in the village of Black Notley. He was the youngest child in a rural blacksmith's family. John's mother collected herbs and used them for medicinal purposes, which made her famous throughout the district. The future scientist helped his mother, and it was then that a great love for the study and study of nature was born in his heart.Rey Jr. received his primary education in his native village while attending school. At 16, he enters Trinity College at the University of Cambridge. Unlike other students, John was poor and could not pay for tuition, but, while working as a servant for college staff, was exempted.
Ray graduates from college, receives a master’s degree in 1651, and after studying, remains in this institution as a lecturer.After the death of Ray, his friend wrote about this great scientist as follows: “In business he was strict; in conversation - modest, attentive and friendly; in relation to God - the initiates; in relation to the poor and unfortunate, I have not seen a more merciful and modest person.
