As a journalist, Daniel advocates tolerance and freedom of speech. He writes about what is interesting to people, and in fact becomes the founder of the genre of interviews. Defoe interviews unusual people and even criminals.
In 1665, a strong plague broke out in London, every fifth died, but, fortunately, Defoe and his family were not injured. (Daniel Defoe was married to Mary Tuffley, they had eight children.) The writer described these events in the novel “The Plague of the Year”.Defoe, a brilliant writer and journalist, at the same time was a mediocre financier. He often hid from creditors.
In 1719, Defoe wrote the book “Life and the Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe”. This work entered the treasury of world literature and brought incredible fame to the author. The prototype of the main character Robinson Crusoe, most likely, was the Scottish sailor Alexander Selkirk, who spent all alone on the island for four years. The book gave rise to the classic English novel. Roman Defoe became a literary sensation, demonstrating the inexhaustible possibilities of man in the development of nature and the struggle for life in a hostile world.
